Its early European colonization and central role in World War II made it a perfect melting pot of traditional culture and food destinations.
European influences include Spanish, Dutch, British, and French customs. Neighboring country Japan also sought to join in the conquest in World War II.
Within the region, countries also had their own revolutions: Singapore's declaration of independece from Malaysia, Vietnam's Cold War, the People Power Revolution in the Philippines, and Communist uprising in various countries.
Multiple religious doctrines influence majority of peoples lifestyles. Most common religions include Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism.
